Massage Utilization and Chair Massage

However, in spite of the work I do to "professionalize" massage, I have what other massage therapists would consider a strange obsession. I am crazy about...

...the simple back massage!

That's right! Back rubs in those specially designed massage chairs. Massage therapists who meet me don't understand why I'm so crazy about what seems to be a silly little massage service and they ask:

Why Chair Massage?

I'm crazy about chair massage because I truly believe that it is able to make massage accessible to anyone at all.

Canadian census data has shown that only 2 percent of the population has had massage in the previous year.

What gives? Massage is in the media all the time. It gets coverage in news features and you see massage therapists as featured characters in TV shows and movies.

When you massage a friend's shoulders how likely are they to say, "What the heck are you doing? I really don't like when you massage me. It feels horrible." That's very unlikely to happen because if they are a normal human being they love being massaged.

It's imperative that we get touch routinely to survive. So it makes sense that touch is tied into the pleasure centers in our brain. Every survival function is connected to those pleasure centers in the mid-brain - just like sex and eating. Our bodies are designed to make certain that we get it.

So we're designed to receive touch and we love it. So if people need it so desperately and enjoys it so much, then why don't they get massage regularly?

To discover why you have to look at table massage Put yourself in the consumers' place and look at your massage as though you're completely new to it all:

In order to receive a massage treatment you must go into a small treatment room behind closed doors, take off your clothing and lie down on a table while someone you don't know rubs  oil all over you. And as if that's not enough, you have to pay a lot for the privilege.

It bothersome for massage professionals to think of massage from a perspective like this, but for the most part, that's how the public perceives massage. From that viewpoint, it appears as if the massage industry is deliberately looking to discourage potential customers from buying massage therapy.

It's important to be aware of the psychological obstacles that really dissuade potential customers from buying table massage. These are what we frequently label as objections.

I asked the public in surveys why they don't use massage regularly. I've also asked massage professionals the same question in an effort to reveal the honest to goodness reasons for people not getting massage routinely. I've uncovered some surprising facts.
